Registration for summer soccer programs is now open at www.MiramichiUnited.ca for  everyone ages 4 to 94.  Miramichi United Soccer Club looks after registration and programs within the city of Miramichi and other communities in Northumberland County.  Recreational soccer is offered for ages 4 to 12 and competitive soccer is available for ages 11 to 18.  The senior league starts at age 19 and goes to whatever age you still want to play.
Players are urged to get registered early, as this helps organizers plan teams.  Late registration fees apply to all registrations after April 30th.  Doing everything online is encouraged.  Check the website for details of in person registration times.

Volunteers are needed to help file simple income tax returns for people in your community, on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).
 
If you have a basic understanding of income tax and are
interested in helping out your community, come Lend a Hand! Contact a participating organization in your community to become a CVITP volunteer, or check the CRA website at www.cra.gc.ca/volunteer.

The CRA will support you by providing training and free tax preparation software. The registration period to become a volunteer is from October to the end of April.

APRIL 25, Monday
Co-Ed Washer Toss will begin and held each Monday evening at the Nordin Rec Center. The games will start at 7:00pm and the cost is $6. Cash prizes will be given out for first, second and third place and there is no need to bring a partner, as partners will be determined through a draw. All are welcome

There is a weekly prayer & bible study that happens at the Boom Road Pentecostal Church, every
Tuesday night.  From 6:30pm - 7:00pm there is prayer and from 7:00pm - 8:00pm the bible study called "A Walk in the Word" happens with Gerald and Fay Regan.  All are welcome.

APRIL 26, Tuesday
Holy Trinity Congregational Church on the former airbase is holding an engaging Bible Study every Tuesday evening. Our small group is learning about basic Biblical and spiritual principles using the book called, Thirty Discipleship Exercises  The Pathway to Christian Maturity. Feel free to join us. APRIL 27, Wednesday
Everyone is welcome to come and learn how to square dance at the Caring Friends Activity Center in Chatham (24 Princess Street) from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.  No partner required.  Enjoy a fun evening with lots of laughter gentle activity and meeting new people.  Weekly beginner classes happen every Wednesday evening for a cost of $5. The Miramichi Regional Music Festival will take place for students and schools in Miramichi to participate in.  Miramichi has a long, rich history of offering a competitive music festival for its young people.  The Miramichi Regional Music Festival information has been sent to area schools and private music teachers and it is also available on-line at http://www.nbfmf.org/html/music_festival_initiative.html
Competition will be offered at various levels from beginner to advanced, awards and prizes will be offered and local schools are encouraged to participate in the non-competitive classroom singing, choral speech, rhythm band, and dance classes. Also offered are classes for school, church and community choirs and bands with a choice of competitive or non-competitive participation.

The City of Miramichi will host the 9th annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast at The Rodd Miramichi River Resort from 7:00am - 9:00am.  This years Key Note Speaker for the event is Joy Smith, former teacher and MP from Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Mrs. Smith committed herself to fight against human trafficking in Canada and has become the only Member of Parliament in Canadian history to have amended the Criminal Code twice as a Private Member, in order to protect victims.  Music will be provided by Worship team from the Point Church. The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is a community gathering and is an opportunity to pray for wisdom for our elected leaders throughout the Miramichi Region as they assume the challenge of leading our communities forward. 

APRIL 29, Friday
Edward Smith, the son of Mrs Joy Smith, will be speaking at a special event at River of Life Assembly in the Miramichi, starting at 7:00pm.  Edward works with the JoySmith Foundation in the battle against human trafficking.  He has worked on specialized police forces, trained in rescuing children from online child predators and he will be sharing how ordinary Canadians can stand against Human trafficking.  All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

There will be a Salmon Supper happening at the Grey Rapids United Pentecostal Church from
5:00pm - 6:30pm.  The cost will be $15 a plate and special gospel music will begin at 7:00pm.  Meal includes Salmon, potato, peas, roll, chow, pie, tea & coffee.

Millerton School will be hosting a “free sale and breakfast” from 8:00am - 11:00am.  What is a “Free S
ale” you ask?  Well, it is just like a “yard sale” only everything is free.  Gently used Items such as clothing, toys, books, household items, furniture and small appliances will be available at no cost.  Students, staff and anyone who would like to donate items, can do so until April 27th.   It’s a great chance to get rid of items you no longer use or need.  Just drop off your gently used items during school hours and they will be included in our free sale.  A free breakfast will also be served in our cafeteria.  Millerton School wants you to know that they truly are “The little school with the BIG heart.”

St. Michael's Basilica Parish in Chatham will play host to "Our Fathers in Concert" at 7:00pm. Father Aaron Knox, Father Don Savoie, Father Mark Trzop and Father Gerry White have been performing together since 2009.  These singing priests, all of the St. John diocese, are sure to delight. The performance will be held in the main church with doors opening at 6:00pm. All are invited to come and enjoy a relaxing evening with "Our Fathers in Concert". A free-will offering will be received benefiting the Capital Campaign.

Local theatre company, Double  L Productions have announced its next show which will be the musical fantasy,"The Fantasticks".  The lyrics are written by Tom Jones and with music by Harvey Schmidt, and directed by Lloyd E. Cameron.  The love story features eight Miramichi singers and actors with Katie MacDonald, Joey Dignam and Joe Butler in the lead roles, accompanied by Jason Howe, Paul McGraw, John Bosma, Gary Blackmore and Cindy Rule.   The two act play will be presented Friday & Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:00pm at The Vogue Theatre on Cunard Street in Chatham.  Tickets are $20 and available at Scott's Pharmasave and Brookdale Flower Shop Inc.

All Things Ladies will be held at the Riverside Entertainment Center from 7:00pm - 10:00pm.  It is a

Chastity Poirier's Dance Palace presents "Fire Burn" at 12:00pm and again at 6:00pm at Carrefour Beausoliel Theater.  Their talented dancers will be burning up the dance floor during their year end dance show, featuring Jazz, Point Ballet, Lyrical, Hip Hop and musical theater dancers! The Rotary Club of Newcastle announced details of the“Rotary RibFest on the Miramichi” happening all weekend.  The community event will involve a number of activities with lots of food and will take place in the downtown parking area in front of the library off Ledden Street.  This year will see three professional ribbers coming from the Toronto area to anchor the event, along with some additional food suppliers. These are the same people who are involved in Ribfests in other New Brunswick
cities and southern Ontario.  Many of the same activities will be available . Washer toss and human foosball tournaments are open for registration. Children's activities will be coordinated in partnership the Miramichi Mango Team. Sunday morning activities will be buoyed by The Point Church, who will be hosting an open air church service at 11:00am. Musical entertainment will be plentiful. The Annual Walk of Hope will be happening, presented by the Schizophrenia Society of NB (SSNB) -Miramichi Chapter.  The walk will be held starting at 1:00pm and will be set in motion at the Wal-Mart parking lot and come to an end at Seaman’s Hospital, where participants will enjoy entertainment, refreshments, a light lunch and great door prizes.  This event is a major fundraiser of the SSNB-Miramichi Chapter and with your help, they can continue to provide support, education and awareness within the Greater Miramichi community and help those who are living with mental illness. Everyone is encouraged to take part and show your support for those in our community who are affected with mental illness
