With Small Business Week kicking off, the Miramichi chamber of Commerce is offering some great events for the city. 

- WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY: There will be a complimentary leadership workshop taking place about “The 21 Laws of Leadership”.  The sessions will be held in the Miramichi Chamber Boardroom (120 Newcastle Blvd) from 12:00pm – 1:00pm on each day.

-THURSDAY:  There will be a complimentary seminar on “Small Business Investor Tax Credit and Raising Money”, everything you need to know about the changes to the Small Business Investor Tax Credit and changes to the rules related to raising money for your business. This session will be held at Howard Johnson from 12:00pm - 1:00pm and a light lunch will be provided.

OCTOBER 30, Thursday
The Miramichi Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a noon luncheon event entitled:  Putting Job Creation First" with the premier Brian Gallant.  Mr. Gallant will be at the Kinsmen Center from 12:00pm – 1:00pm talking about putting job creation first.  Those interested in attending MUST PRE REGISTER for the event by contacting the Chamber office at 506-622-5522 or email:  mirchamber@nb.aibn.com  Tickets are $15/person and a light lunch will be provided.

The Greater Blackville Resource Center is congratulating all the 2014 Moose Hunters on their successful season!  If you were on of the lucky people who got your moose, the food bank in Blackville are excepting any donations of moose meat to help the community.   Meat can be dropped off at Miramichi meat, 1189 King George Highway or call 506-622-3408 or 506-843-6898

The Tutoring Centre, located at 1745 Water Street in Chatham (across from The Great Canadian Dollar Store) is offering tutoring sessions for the 2014-2015 school year, for students of all ages.  Limited number of spots available, please contact 506-773-5636 for more information.

UNTIL OCTOBER 16, Tuesday & Thursdays
Fitness classes will be happening, perfect for the over 50 population, every Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 8:00pm - 9:00pm.  This 6 week program will happen at the NSER gym for a cost of
$35 for 12 nights (2 nights/wk) or $18 for 6 nights (1 night/wk).  You will need good sneakers, water bottle and small set of hand weights (2-5 lbs).  Mats are provided at the gym but you are welcome to bring your own.  For more information contact Ruth Harris by e-mail or 506-836-7486.

The Miramichi Rotary Community Band is looking for new members.  Miramichi's only brass and reed band practices weekly from September to June.  The band has been together since 1995 and performs locally at graduations and other events. If you are new to the area, or simply want to revive your musical talents from school, please give Elizabeth Walker a call at 506-778-8001.
 

FIRST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH
The Breakfast Caregiver Support Group will happen at 10:00am at the Fundy Line Conference Room (Back Room).  This nurturing group is designed for caregivers of persons who suffer from Mental Illness/Addictions Issues.  Breakfast will be at your own expense but the nurturing and supportive environment is PRICELESS.  For more information, please call The Schizophrenia Society of NB Miramichi at 506-622-1595 or Janie Hubbard at 506-622-7966, please leave a message if no answer.

EVERY WEDNESDAY
The Community Support Group will be happening from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at Newcastle Kin Centre.  This nurturing group is designed for people recovering from Mental Health and Addictions.  Caregivers are more than welcome as well.  For more information, please call The Schizophrenia Society of NB Miramichi at 506-622-1595 or Linda Stevens at 506-622-2440.

FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH
There will be a beautiful night of worship and prayer with an amazing band for Christians at The Point Church - Newcastle location (formerly known as Newcastle United Baptist Church) on the first Saturday of each month at 7:00pm.  Everyone is welcome.

EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT
The official Youth Night Kick Off party will be held at the Golden Hawk Rec Center from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.  Activities include a Mobile Gaming Unit, Laser Tag, Open Gym Activities, Games Room and a DJ.  Golden Hawk Youth Night is open to youth Grades 5 - 12 and runs from Sept. 19 - May 15 on Fridays from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.  For more information, please call the Miramichi Community Wellness and Recreation Department at 506-623-2300 or email: jason.walsh@miramichi.org

SEPTEMBER 10 - OCTOBER 22
Nominations are now being accepted for the 3rd annual ‘Women of Influence Night’ to be held on Saturday November 29.  WOMEN is Miramichi’s only female entrepreneurial network serving the greater Miramichi area.  Nominations for the award categories of Female Entrepreneur of the Year, Female Professional of the Year and Women of Influence are now being accepted.  WOMEN is a membership-based network, however nominees, as well as the person sending in the nomination, do not have to be a member of WOMEN.  Details of each award can be found at www.womenofmiramichi.com

October 22, a selection committee will narrow down each category to three finalists based on the information received for the nominator.  The three finalists in each category will be announced October 31. For more information, please contact the WOMEN network at women@nb.aibn.com.

OCTOBER 6 - NOVEMBER 27
Aerobic Classes for all ages with Arlene Waugh every Monday at 7:30pm and Thursday at 7:00pm at the United Church Hall in Blackville.  Fall Session will run October 6 - November 27 for Middle

Every Sunday the Miramichi Skating Club is now offering Adult Skating Classes from 3:30pm - 4:30pm at the Civic Center!  This is a learn-to-skate program based on individual need, anything from basic skills to figure skating skills.  Cost is $185 for 10 sessions and for more information please contact Eric Fallon at 506-624-9198.

The Little Southwest Baptist Church in Sillikers will be holding its annual Missions Festival from Friday thru till Sunday, with services nightly at 7:00pm.  Come out and hear key note speaker Dr. Ron Blue of Dallas Theological Seminary.  All are welcome!
 

OCTOBER 25, Saturday
There will be a Gideons Banquet held at the Fredericton Convention Center, 670 Queen St. Fredericton.   Join in to find out how you can place a bible in the hands of someone in China, someone who's desperately waiting for a copy of their very own.

OCTOBER 26, Sunday
St. Raphael's Parish Fall Supper will be held from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at the Father AA McKinnon Hall, Main Street Blackville.  Cost for adults is $12, children 12 & under $6 and take outs for $12.50

OCTOBER 28, Tuesday
The October meeting of the New Brunswick Genealogical Society, Miramichi Branch, will be held at 6:00pm at the Chatham Public Library, King Street, Chatham.  The guest speaker will be Shawn McCarthy, local historian, who will give a presentation on Nelson, it's origins and people and the events of the recent 200 year anniversary will follow. All welcome.

OCTOBER 28, Tuesday
There will be a book launch of Maritime Christmas Stories by Wayne Curtis called “Sleigh Tracks in the Snow”, at 7:00pm at the Beaverbrook Kin Center.

NOVEMBER 1, Saturday
The third annual Black Tie Bingo Dinner & Dance will be happening at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel.  The event promises to be an exciting, dynamic and fun filled evening packed with fun

NOVEMBER 1, Saturday
St. Andrew's United Church, 188 Wellington Street in Chatham, will be holding their annual turkey supper from 4:00pm - 6:30pm.  Cost is $10 for adults, take-out is $10.50 and $4 for children under 12.  All are welcome!

NOVEMBER 2, Sunday
Bravura will taking the stage in a fundraising concert for the St. Michaels Basilica Capital Fundraising Campaign at James M Hill school in Chatham, starting at 6:00pm.  Tickets are $25 per person
in advance or $30 per person at the door.  Tickets are available at St. Michaels Parish office in Chatham (506-778-5150), from a committee member, Brookdale Flower Shop in Newcastle, Seasons View Cafe in Chatham & at both Newcastle/Chatham farmers markets.  Bravura is a Toronto based group which was formed in 2010 by three outstanding performers from the world of musical theatre, jazz & opera.  This trio of baritones are considered to be Canada's finest and have thrilled audiences throughout the nation!
