Garden Space Available at North Bartholomew Road Community Garden.  Do you crave fresh vegetables but don't have tools or space to make your own garden? We have a nice, fertile tilled garden about one-quarter acre in size.  We are putting in potatoes, corn, onions, carrots, and beets later this week. There might be a couple of 160 foot rows still available after we plant.  If anyone is interested in sharing this garden space, please contact Ken at 506-251-9709, or see All-in-Fun Blackville on facebook. The "Move it or Lose it" program provides an opportunity for individuals 50 and over to get and stay active.  The program features walking, pole walking, seminars on active living and geocaching in the beautiful scenery of the French Fort Cove.  Whether you would like to try some new activities such as pole walking and geocaching or would just like to join us to walk the trails, there is something for everyone.

This program is FREE to individuals but there are limited spaces due to equipment availability. The Greater Miramichi Parkinson Support Group meet at he Sobeys Community Room in Douglastown starting at 7:00pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings and for more details, please contact Velma at 506-773-6239

JULY 29, Wednesday
There will be a movie night at Ritchie Wharf starting at 10:00pm.   Join in for a night of enchantment in the park as we celebrate Cinderella by having our own ball under the stars. Come dressed as your favourite prince or princess for a night of great family entertainment.  Please bring your own chairs or blankets to sit on. Canteen services will be available.  Brought to you by Miramichi Community Wellness and Recreation.

JULY 29, Wednesday
Bay du Vin Summer Survival will be happening.  At the Black River Rink, there will be a treasure hunt
for youth ages 5-9 starting at 6:30pm.  At 6:45pm a scavenger hunt will begin for those ages 9 to 13.  Registration for teen (ages 13-19) washer toss tournament will be from 7:00pm - 7:30pm and then the tournament will begin.  Prize for first place will be $50 and for second $25

JULY 30, Thursday
A call for action has been issued to all seniors and supporters regarding the status quo in the calculation of cost for living in a nursing home.  The voices of seniors are growing louder & stronger and you are cordially invited to attend a press conference starting at 10:30am at People's Park Tower, 55 Camden Crescent (Rose Hall) in Moncton.  Members of the NB Seniors Citizens Federation and the Coalition for Seniors & Nursing Home Resident's Rights Invitation will be in attendance.

Registration for Bay du Vin Summer Survivor competition will be held from 6:30pm - 7:00pm at the
Black River Rink.  All those ages 9 to 16 years of age are welcome.  From 7:00pm - 10:00pm the Survivor Competition will be happening.

JULY 31, Friday - AUGUST 3, Monday
Theatre fans are in for a treat with Samuel Crowell’s original play “On the Wind: A Musical Journey" will be performed at the James M. Hill theatre as part of Middle Islands Heritage Festival.  Show time is at 7:30pm each evening and the admission fee is $12 for adults, $10 for students and children, and children five and under free of charge.  All of the proceeds from the show will go back to Middle Island to keep the festival going in future years

There will be a Country Breakfast happening at St. Michael's Church Hall, Bayside, from 8:00am -
11:30am.  Cost for adults is $8, $4 for children and take out cost will be $0.50 extra.

As part of the Bay du Vin Summer Survival festival, a special Family Fun Day will be happening at
the Black River Rink from 1:00pm - 5:00pm.  There will be games for all ages, a jumping castle, mini golf, lollipop tree, fish pond, grab box and more!   There will also be children's frog races happening where children can enter for frog for $1

AUGUST 2, Sunday
Registration for 4th annual Washer Toss Tournament to be held at the Black River Rink starting at 1:00pm:  The tournament will be from 2:00pm - 5:00pm with cash prizes given to the winners. 

AUGUST 2, Sunday & AUGUST 3, Monday
In recognition of Colleen Lynch's long-time service to the community, the organizers of the Remembering Nelson Fair, re-christened this year's celebration “Colleen's Days"!  The festivities begin at 8:00am Sunday morning with a Community Breakfast at the Friendly Neighbours Senior Citizens Centre, sponsored by Knights of Columbus Fr. Egan Council. From there, a Family BBQ in Bicentennial Park will commence at 1:00pm, along with live music featuring Joanne Lynch, Charlie Hachey, Eric Hendricks, Alex Loggie, and Greg Donovan.   On the grounds of Nelson Rural School there will be free games for children and everyone who participates in a game will be given a ticket to enter a draw for a new bicycle! Thirty other draws, for gift certificates, will also take place throughout the afternoon. A canteen, animal balloons, face painting & cotton candy will also be available.

A Sunday Evening Social in the park,  sponsored by the Nelson Seniors Club & Threads of Friendship Quilters, and featuring music by the Nelson Connection of Bob Mcallum, Donnie Cormier & Jaime Craig, will begin at 6:00pm. Colleen was an aid quilter, and at the time of her death, she had three quilts at various stages of completion. The Threads of Friendship Quilters have completed these and will present them to the Lynch family.

Things begin again on Monday morning at 10:00am, when Friends of Beaubears Island and Canoe/Kayak NB President Tim Humes co-host "Paddle with a Pro" Canoeing with $2 trips to Beaubears Island by way of the Voyageur Canoe, a unique vessel which offers an equally unparalleled experience. While on the Island, take advantage of the newly opened walking trails and the picturesque views of flora & fauna. The organizers are expecting a good crowd and a weekend of fun. They are certain that it would be the sort of celebration that their friend Colleen would have enjoyed.

AUGUST 7, Friday - AUGUST 9, Sunday
The Blackville BlueGrass/Country festival will be held at the Blackville PowerTrack with an open mic happening on Friday & Sunday, the competition will be on Saturday and show times are 1:00pm - 5:00pm & 6:00pm - 11:00pm.  Cost is camp is $10 a day per person, or $25 for the weekend pass (includes competition).  First prize is $1000, Second is $300 and Third is $200.  For more information, please contact Allan Washburn  at or phone 506-624-3908

The Greater Miramichi Regional Service Commission Solid Waste Services is hosting their 10th year Recycling Celebration at the Kin Center, 100 Newcastle Blvd. from 11:00am - 1:00pm.  There will be information displays, games & activities for the kids & everyone is welcome to come out and help celebrate 10 years with

Miramichi Survival town hall meeting will be held at the St. James & St. John United Church Center, 57 King George Highway, Miramichi, to voice concerns over the forestry & mills situation here in  the city.   All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

AUGUST 15, Saturday
The Central New Brunswick Woodmen's Museum will be hosting a Professional Lumberjack Competition from 12:00pm - 5:00pm.  Admission is $5 each or $15 per family.  The preliminary axe throw will be from 9:00am - 11:00am and the welcoming ceremonies will be at 11:45am.  There will be a BBQ and lumberjacks & Jill's of all ages are encourage to dress as the most authentic lumberjack and the "Best Dressed" award will be given out at the end of the day.  A supper with baked ham, home baked beans and potato scallop will be served by the CNBA Graduating Class of 2016.  For more information or for registration, please contact 506-369-7214 or email:  Events include:  the springboard, stock chainsaw vertical chop, bow saw, crosscut sawing, and underhand chop.

The 2nd Annual Walk for Autism, which will be part of the Autism Awareness Fun Day, will be happening starting at the Dr. Losier School at 11:00am.  Registration will be at 10:00am or you can pre-register anytime at the Autism Resource Center.

The Mount Saint Joseph Foundation, will be hosting their fourth annual Black Tie Bingo & Dinner for our Foundation. This 2015 BTB Gala is to celebrate the support they received over the past four years.  The Black Tie Event takes place on October 24th, 2015 at the Rodd, Miramichi. Not only is the event going to be filled with fun activities such as bingo, a silent, and a live auction, but there will also be delicious food and very exciting prizes to be won!
