Community Volunteers are needed to help file simple income tax returns for people in your community, on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).  This free program helps eligible individuals and families who need a hand preparing their income tax and benefit returns.   Community organizations host tax preparation clinics and arrange for volunteers to prepare tax returns for individuals and families with a modest income and a simple tax situation so that they can honour their tax obligations and receive their tax credits and benefits.  As a volunteer you will: give back to your community; help individuals get or maintain uninterrupted access to benefits and credits; increase your personal tax knowledge; gain new skills and improve existing ones; do work that is valued and recognized and receive training, support, and reference materials including free tax software.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact your local CVITP coordinator at 1-855-516-4405 or go to .

For the whole month of January, Honest Moments Photography will be having "Winter Wonderland Photo-shoots".  Photos are $5 each and prints are $2 extra.  All money raised through the month will go to the Newcastle Library.  Anyone who gets photos done, their name goes into a draw for a HUGE basket.

Close your eyes and imagine a unique, culinary experience where you rely on all of your senses – except sight.  CNIB New Brunswick is looking for energetic, well connected volunteers to help coordinate, promote and lead Dining in the Dark fundraisers in Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton and Miramichi.  Roles include selling tickets, securing auction items and sponsorship or brainstorming ideas for our blindfolded events.  Event proceeds support programs and services that help New Brunswickers who are blind or partially sighted to lead full, active lives.  To learn more or to volunteer, call Christine at 506.857.4240 x 5619 or email

There will be a beautiful night of worship and prayer with an amazing band for Christians at The Point Church - Newcastle location (formerly known as Newcastle United Baptist Church) on the first Saturday of each month at 7:00pm.  Everyone is welcome.

The weekly washer toss games will be happening at the Nordin Recreation Center, 24 Nordin Lane, Miramichi.  registration is between 6:30pm & 7:00pm with play beginning at 7:00pm.  Cost is $5

"Totally Awesome 80s" after school drama production will be held at North & South Esk
Regional High School each evening at 7:00pm.  Cost is $5 for one performance or $12 for all three. Come out and enjoy a fun filled tribute to the 1980s with nods to iconic 80s teen movies and celebrities and a rockin score that captures the hit sounds of the decade.  This is a performance you won't want to miss.

JANUARY 30, Friday
The youth  group (ages 9-12) will be at the Golden Hawk with swimming from 6:00pm -
8:00pm.  Any new parents or youth attending, if you need to stay and watch, this is not a problem, the pool is a great place for this as there is parent seating!  The Teen group will be bowling at Castle Lanes.  Please meet at  9:00pm and pickup is at 10:30pm.  There will be four volunteers from NBCC for bowling.

JANUARY 31, Saturday
There will be a benefit for Terry Walsh at the Beaverbrook Kin Center from 2:00pm - 8:00pm.  Entertainment is being organized
by Bob McCallum, with a number of well-known local performers expected to take the stage.  Refreshments and snacks will be served, there will be a 50/50 draw, a silent auction, raffles and a draw for a snow blower.  Terry is 56 years old and has already suffered two major strokes, one of which was very debilitating.

Miramichiers will have an opportunity to lend their voices to the conversation when the Engage NB tour comes to the NBCC Miramichi campus at 2:00pm.  Anyone planning to take part in this weekend’s public dialogue session on how the province can slash costs and increase revenues is being challenged to arrive with their thinking caps on.

The Juno winning musical duo from Newfoundland, Ennis (formerly Ennis Sisters) will perform in Miramichi at the banquet room of the Miramichi Curling Club starting at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Brookdale Flower Shop. This concert is a production of Octopus House.  Boasting three gold records, as well as awards from Juno, SOCAN, the East Coast Music Association and Music NL, Ennis will be be here promoting their latest recording, Stages, which is an 11-track collection of beautifully crafted songs inspired by the duo’s Newfoundland-folk beginnings.

Easter Seals is proud to present the 2nd annual “King of the Airstrip” snowmobile drag
races!  ALPA Equipment Ltd. & Torque Motorsports will be sponsoring the "King of the Strip" snowmobile drag races being held at 289 Highway 105, in Maugerville.  Admission is free and there will be warming huts, bbqs, free rides to the airstrip and all proceeds go to assist children with disabilities.  Registration is only $20 from 10:30am - 11:30am with the races starting at noon.

50th Anniversary of the Canadian Flag celebration at Kouchibouguac National Park from 12:00pm - 5:00pm.  Get your participants booklet from the attendant at the Parks shelter.  The rally will lead you to Patterson shelter and prizes for participation and for the winning team will be awarded.   There will be a Flag Cake, bring your lunch and they’ll bring dessert.  Heat up with hot chocolate, Roast some Marshmallows over the fire, do some family sledding and tobogganing! A few sleds will also be at your disposal throughout the winter at Patterson.  It's a day of celebration at Kouchibouguac National Park

WRITE ON! A Creative Writing Workshop will be held from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at Kidplayhouse White Door Studio, 161 Henry St., Newcastle.  WRITE ON! is a creative writing workshop that will

The Knights of Columbus monthly fundraising breakfast will be held from 8:00am - 1:00pm at the Seniors Hall, 26 Sutton Rd., in Nelson.  Breakfast includes eggs, bacon, pan fries, coffee, tea and
